St. Simons Lighthouse, St. Simons Island, GA
11x17 inch print.
James Gould could not get enough of St. Simons Lighthouse. He was the builder and first keeper. After being awarded a contract to build the in 1807, he was appointed as the first light keeper at St. Simons. In 1830 he was paid $17000 to build a keeper’s dwelling. He served as light keeper for 27 years.
The lighthouse art of St. Simons Lighthouse, “Golden Reflection,” captures the sunset and blaze of light bouncing off the lighthouse. It seems to refresh the lighthouse. For now the lighthouse is receiving light instead of giving it.
